Somerville Police Receive Grant Funds

The Somerville Police Department was recently awarded $22,188 in grant funds to purchase and upgrade equipment to improve the quality and efficiency of services to Somerville and the surrounding community.

NARCOG prepared and submitted a grant to the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) for the Town of Somerville to benefit the Somerville Police Department.  The funding was awarded from the Edward Byrne Memorial JAG Program under the Law Enforcement and Traffic Safety grant program.

Funds will provide a number of supplies including transitioning from current duty belt equipment to better “load bearing vests”.  This will improve officer health and well-being by providing a safe and healthier alternative to traditional duty belts.  The grant also allows for modernizing equipment for use in the new vests.  Funding will purchase upgraded technology including a wireless hard drive, monitor and printer that will offer the opportunity to conduct online training.  The new technology will also provide the needed data storage capacity to modernize operations and evidence storage for the department.
