NARCOG Operations Impacted by Coronavirus

The North Central Alabama Regional Council of Governments (NARCOG) announced the immediate modification of business operations in response to the outbreak of Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). This decision was made from an abundance of caution for the protection of the individuals we serve. “The populations we serve on a daily basis are those at higher risk of getting sick from this illness including older adults and those with chronic medical conditions” said Robby Cantrell, Executive Director.

Our main office and transit offices will be closed to the general public, effective immediately. Individuals may still access services by calling our main phone number at 256-355-4515 during regular business hours, Monday through Friday from 8:00am until 4:30pm. Our transit agency is available from 7:00am until 5:00pm at 256-580-2088. Many of our employees will work remotely and will respond to requests for information and assistance in a timely manner.

NARCOG is dedicated to helping protect these vulnerable individuals and the team members that serve them. Our team will continue to monitor the health and well-being of our clients and will resume normal operations as soon as possible. We will rely on the guidance of state and federal health officials to determine when operations will return to normal schedules. Updates will be posted here and on our social media outlets.  See information on transit operations below.

NARCOG Regional Transit Agency Statement

Many of those served through our agency are older adults and individuals with severe underlying chronic medical conditions. These are the individuals the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicates are at higher risk for developing serious complications from Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Our agency is taking the necessary steps to protect our riders and our employees. The following operating procedures are effective immediately:

  • Individuals traveling to oncology or dialysis appointments will travel one at a time (an attendant may also ride, if needed)
  • No more than ONE passenger will ride at a time.
  • Passengers are advised to stay at home if they are sick
  • Passengers are encouraged to limit unnecessary travel
  • Passengers are requested to avoid close contact and maintain a distance of 6 feet.
  • Drivers will disinfect vehicles on a continuous basis.
