Alabama Cares

Provides supportive services to family caregivers who provide care for 20 hours or more for someone 60 or over. NARCOG services include offering information and assistance, counseling, respite care, and supplemental services. The program’s goal is to assist caregivers who make great personal sacrifices to provide support and care to their loved ones in order to keep them in the community longer. Respite care can provide six hours homemaking, personal care, and/or sitter services through agencies that contract with NARCOG. Respite care provides temporary relief to the caregivers to help reduce the likelihood of burnout. Caregivers are faced with the challenge of caring for another individual while trying to manage their own personal affairs. They are often faced with difficult decisions and time constraints, making care giving even more difficult. Alabama Cares strives to make services and information more accessible to caregivers in order to alleviate the strain that care giving puts on their lives. It is important to note that the Alabama Cares program desires to enhance, not replace the caregiver’s dedication and service to the care-recipient.
